Job Title: HVAC Technician
Job Summary
The HVAC Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC/R systems and related equipment across campus facilities. This position ensures a safe, comfortable, and efficient environment for students, staff, and visitors by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response services. The technician will work with a wide range of HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, and digital control systems, while also supporting general maintenance tasks as needed. This role requires strong technical skills, reliability, and the ability to respond to urgent needs both during and outside of regular working hours.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and equipment.
Conduct inspections and diagnose problems with chillers, DX units, VRF systems, heating units, air handlers, fan coils, exhaust fans, and related systems.
Install, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, water fountains, and ice machines.
Replace air filters, maintain controls, and service digital building automation and energy management systems.
Operate and troubleshoot building climate control systems, both on-site and remotely.
Safely use mechanical lifts, ladders, hand tools, and power tools as required.
Assist with general maintenance duties and facility set-ups as needed.
Remain on-call for emergency repairs and urgent facility needs during off-hours.
Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and stakeholders regarding HVAC-related issues.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and applicable regulations.
Complete required documentation, work orders, and maintenance logs accurately and in a timely manner.
Requirements
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience working with HVAC/R systems, including chillers, split systems, VRF systems, and refrigeration systems.
Trade or vocational school graduation, approved apprenticeship, or equivalent on-the-job training required.
Current CFC/EPA certification.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC safety procedures, tools, and equipment.
Ability to operate computers, tablets, and CMMS systems; familiarity with building automation/energy management software.
Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and respond promptly to emergencies.
Physical ability to lift, push, and pull equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. (with assistance if necessary) and work at heights, including on ladders, lifts, and rooftops.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
